About Casa Jasmin

The “Casa Jasmin” is located in the historic centre of Recife. It is in an area of national heritage in front of the traditional Boa Vista market. It has housed the Production company Desvia since 2010 and in 2021 the house was converted to recieve guests. These guests have largly been artists, filmmakers, curators, programers, researchers. And from January 2026 we are launching  the house officially as an artistic residency; Casa/Atelier (Home/Studio). In Oct 2025 the house recieved its first official residency for director/scriptwriters organised by BRLab. We are an official host for the Global Pop-Up film residency network. The Casa/Atelier call for residency proposals will be officialy open from January 2026.

On a rolling basis we will accept proposals from indivudals or groups from all artistic expressions, including curators, programmers and researchers, who wish to take part in an unstructured residency and use part or all of the house during a minimum of 2 weeks. Your time at the house can be used to work on a specific existing project, research new ideas, share work with the local community or simply rest.  The artist(s) will offer the amount they can afford to contribute for their stay in the house. Projects or groups with institutional support will be expected to pay the institutional rate. This rate enables us to support artists who do not have the means to pay but would like to use the space. The institutional rates and explications about them can be found here. We are however always open to proposals when rates are not feasible for whatever reason.

The house is also available for events linked to the arts and that align with our principles at dates between residencies.

Guiding principals/values

*trans-disciplinarity
*community integration*
*collectivity & joint management
*diversity and inclution
*embracing diverse needs and proposals
*promoting and supporting artist networks in Brazil & globally
*Rest and time not producing is also a valid objective that contributes to one´s artistic practice.
*collective financial sustainbility. Pay what you can (including more in order to support others).

The house functions without profit. All monies rasied cover the running costs of the house including rent, maintencen, cleaning, admin costs andall promotion and communication linked to the residency. We also pay everyone who works for the residency, we believe that not-for-profit does not mean underpaying or expecting voluntary services, unless those people have another source of sufficient income.  We hope that participants who can contribute more do, so that we can offer more to artist in less financially secure situations.  We are committed to providing minmum of 3 cost free residencies per year. And if financially viable we will alos provide a stipend for living expenses.
